soldiers storyBLACK HISTORY MONTH FILM SERIES: A SOLDIER’S STORY | February 5

The Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and Law Studies will host a Black History Month Film Series screening of A Soldier’s Story on Thursday, February 5, at 5:00 p.m. in the Science Center, Room 139.

Released in 1984 and directed by Norman Jewison, the film stars Howard E. Rollins Jr., Adolph Caesar, and Denzel Washington. 

Adapted from Charles Fuller’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the story is set on a segregated Army base during World War II and follows the investigation of a murdered Black sergeant, revealing internalized racism and tensions within the ranks.

Attendees are invited to stay after the screening for a post-film discussion.

aamu strong modelLEADING THE WAY WHILE LIFTING THE COMMUNITY | FEBRUARY 10

Campus Health Services will host a Black History Month program titled “Leading the Way While Lifting the Community: The AAMU Strong Model” on Tuesday, February 10, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. during Common Hour.

This webinar will address Castleview Wealth/New York Life, the history and commitment to the African American Market, and how they will be supporting the University.

road to TokyoTHE ROAD TO TOKYO | FEBRUARY 10

The Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy and Law Studies will host a talk by Dr. Yinghong Cheng on the often-overlooked role of African American G.I.s in building the Ledo Road during World War II.

The talk on Tuesday, February 10, will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Bank of America Building, Room 217.

This presentation explores Black G.I.s’ contributions to the war effort in Asia and their pursuit of the Double V, victory abroad against fascism and victory at home against racism and segregation.

power talkPOWER TALK & FILM SCREENING | FEBRUARY 19

The Dean of Students will host a Power Talk with Kemba Smith Pradia on Thursday, February 19, at 11 a.m. in the William B. DeLauder Education and Humanities Theater. This event is open to the DSU community only.

A screening of Kemba will follow at 6 p.m. in the William B. DeLauder Education and Humanities Theater and is open to the public. DSU faculty, staff and students receive free entry with a DSU ID. Admission for non-DSU attendees is $5 cash only.

The 2nd Annual Unapologetically Black Conference will take place Monday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center Parlors.

The conference theme is Power. Policy. People.
