University Forum - Commencement Update for 2020-2021

How to put on your academic regalia

Celebrating the class of 2020 and 2021

Delaware State University administrators, faculty, and staff want to congratulate the class of 2021 on the successful completion of your academic career and welcome back graduates from 2020 for their on-campus commencement exercises.

The commencement committee is working to finalize plans and is basing the events on the most recent CDC and state COVID-19 guidelines.  Here are some additional details you need to know as you prepare for your college’s commencement exercises:

  • All ceremonies will held outdoors (the commencement committee does have a weather contingency plan in the event of inclement weather)
  • Each graduate will receive two (2) spectator/guest tickets
  • Infants/toddlers/small children DO count as one (1) ticketed guest if they attend
  • Students will be required to follow the university protocol for COVID-19 testing and must submit proof of a negative test taken no more than three days prior to arriving on campus. If tested off-campus, test results should be emailed to studenthealth2020 [at] desu.edu
  • All guests must submit a negative COVID-19 test result taken on or after May 2nd, submitted and uploaded by May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Spring 2021 Commencement Campus Access & Clearance Form link https://forms.office.com/r/m4txSZghia
  • Guest should comply with temperature screenings when asked
  • Masks must be worn properly at all times
  • Families are asked to sit together/socially distanced if you are attending ceremonies on campus
  • No heals in the stadium or on the Tubman/Laws courtyard
  • All graduates should arrive on campus 1 hour prior to the start of their respective ceremony
  • There will be limited regalia assistance (please come dressed if possible)

It is important to stress that any plans are tentative and will be based on the most recent COVID-19 conditions at the time, including all state and local mandates and requirements in place, as we get closer to DSU’s scheduled commencement exercises.

We are required to follow all mandates and requirements in order to safeguard the health and safety of our students, their families, staff, and ceremony guests.

We are committed to celebrating you and your accomplishments and look forward to your special day.
