Theoretical Foundations and Applications of Critical Thinking

This Critical Thinking (CT) course is informed by academic research indicating that the ability to think critically is an essential prerequisite to effective decision making in any organization. To the extent that changes in the global environment have forced organizations to modify traditional routines, workplace decision makers are called upon to rethink traditional approaches for overcoming challenges that limit performance and, by extension, productivity and/or service delivery. The course places much emphasis on helping participants to gain practical understanding as to how psychological factors inform frames-of-references, which accounts for how the individual interprets, makes meaning, and take action. Course participants engage in experiential learning activities that will enable them to accurately assess their own passively acquired frames-of-references. This kind of self-assessment will serve as a basis for understanding and valuing the role of CT as a tool for overcoming situated thinking. The culminating desired outcome of the CT course is to ensure that workplace supervisors and managers gain grounded understanding as to the applicability of CT strategies towards creative problem solving, conflict/dispute management, work team empowerment, performance enhancement, workplace efficiency, and productivity.

Duration:  2 Days (16 Hours)

Award:  Certificate of Advanced Training in the Theoretical Foundations and Applications of CT

Youth Development Specialist Certificate Course (Designing & Facilitating Teaching-Learning Interventions for At-Risk Youth Groups)

This course is a professional development intervention for Youth Development Practitioners. Primarily, the course is aimed at capacitating individuals who serve as instructors/facilitators, youth coaches, mentors, as well as youth development program coordinators and supervisors with the research informed competencies for designing and facilitating developmental teaching-learning interventions for at-risk and special-needs youth groups. The course places much emphasis on ensuring that participants understand the root causes of Observable Behavioral Norms (OBN). Towards ensuring that the course participants gain meaningful understanding as to the nature of such norms, the course examines the different “Versions of Change” and the established strategies for attaining each version. Additionally, participants will gain understanding of transformation as an ideal version of change, and will discover, experientially, the best-practice strategies for achieving this ideal. Transformation, for the purpose of the course, is representative of change that is underpinned by alteration in Psychological Meaning Schemas. Accordingly, course participants, by way of engaging in the scheduled learning activities, will gain grounded awareness as to how the transformational learning process is initiated, sustained, and concluded. The culminating desired outcome for this course is to capacitate participants with core competencies that will enable them to effectively design and facilitate developmental learning interventions for at-risk-youth.

Certificate of Training in Professional Customer Service (This Course Addresses the Theories and Best-practices of Customer Service as a Professional Practice)

This course engages participants in critically reflective and thoughtful analysis of the roles and functions of a customer service representative/agent. The course attends to customer service as a professional practice that is informed by deep understanding of the root causes of human behavioral norms/ideals, as well as best-practice guidelines for being professionally responsive at all times. The course also gives meaningful recognition to the fact that a customer service representative/agent faces the difficult task of having to engage with multiple personalities, and that he/she must have the ability to exercise mindful affective judgment and control, especially when making decisions and/or taking action that will have implications for the workplace/employer. As such, the course places keen emphasis on ensuring that each course participant enhances his/her emotional intelligence and critical thinking competencies as a basis for providing ongoing exceptional customer service. Through individual and small group explorations, course participants will critically examine various taken-for-granted terms, concepts and practices related to customer service. From a more practical standpoint, the course is delivered in a manner that is experiential and transformational. Importantly, each course participant will be required to relate the theoretical guidelines and proposed best-practices to the context/situation in which he/she serves (or will serve) as a professional customer service representative/agent.
