At the Office of Adult & Continuing Education, we offer various programs that appeal to the masses, so that anyone can find what fits them best. We can help you acquire skills for personal and professional development to better your career or your future.
Professional Development Non-Credit Courses
Professional development courses are a necessary tool for those interested in advancing their careers. These courses are ideal for those who need further education, but cannot take a full, traditional course load.

Please note, courses listed without a date or time will be updated once the minimum number of students show interest by signing up. In the event you sign up for a course that does not get enough interest, you will be notified and may choose to sign up for a different course.

SAT Preparatory Class
The SAT tests students’ verbal, mathematical and writing skills for admittance into college level programs. This course will prepare students for the SAT exam by focusing on lessons of how to approach each question. Students will practice on past SAT exams.
Dates/Times: TBA. Usually held on Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30-8:30 pm. Six paid registrants are required to establish a start date for the course. If you are interested, please email ace [at] desu.edu.
Student Tuition: $500. Includes books and access to online material for one year, a pre and post-test, as well as review of skills progression.
GRE Preparatory Class
Dates/Times: TBA. Usually held on Mondays from 6-9 p.m. The course runs for 8 weeks. Six paid registrants are required to establish a start date for the course. If you are interested, please email ace [at] desu.edu.
Student Tuition: $250; $200 for current Delaware State University students. An additional cost will be the purchase of a book as required by the instructor.
Professional Development Courses
BDL 210- Building Energy Analyst
Course Length: 4.5 days (36 hours); 9 am – 4 pm. Next course dates TBA. Please send an ace [at] desu.edu (email )to express your interest in the course.
Course location: DSU Training and Technology Center, 1570 N. DuPont Hwy, 7th Floor of the Living & Learning Commons, Dover, DE 19901
Course Description: This course examines residential energy auditing and energy efficiency analysis using the “House as a System” theory. Students learn how to provide homeowners with an overview of their energy consumption, and present opportunities to save money by conserving energy. Classroom learning, field practice, and hands on lab work are combined in this course to create a holistic learning experience. Building Energy Analyst prepares trainees to successfully challenge the Building Performance Institute Building Analyst (BPI-BA) Certification tests.
Prerequisites: Recommended BDL 206, but not required
CEUs: 16 CEUs

Ethical Consideration for Client Welfare and Cultural Diversity
Delaware State University’s Department of Psychology is offering behavioral healthcare providers a 3-hour online ethics training on Ethical Consideration for Client Welfare and Cultural Diversity. This online ethics training is comprised of a power point presentation and a 20-question exam. The training is timed to last exactly 3 hours, and you must complete it in one sitting. A certificate will be provided upon completion of the training. Three (3) Continuing Education Hours. Delaware Certificate Board Approved. Please click here to view the flyer.
Student Tuition: $50
Course will include a high-level overview of incorporation, organization and other issues pertinent to anyone involved with a nonprofit startup. Understand the basic concepts of how to incorporate, select a board of directors, write bylaws, obtain tax exempt status, develop a budget, create a marketing plan and explore fundraising.
Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes: Students who attend the will learn the following but not limited to:
- How to start a nonprofit
- The process of applying for nonprofit status through the IRS
- Board development and involvement
- Successes and challenges
- Financial management
- Grant writing and fundraising
Duration: 5 sessions; 3 hours each, of face-to-face classroom instruction
