What we can do
The Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) and Summer Programs offers life-long learning opportunities customized training, graduate prep sessions, non-credit programs (certificate and certifications), training workshops and seminars in a face to face and/or online format. Delaware State University has the only Renewable Energy Education Center in the state. The Renewable Energy Education Center offers certificate programs, as well as, credentialing services in renewable energy.
ACE outreach efforts are statewide, available to the public, and are accomplished through special learning activities for corporate, international professional development and personal enrichment. Our youth enrichment programs are designed for participation year-round. All ACE programming is designed to adapt to changing technological and workforce development needs through careful assessment and strategic planning.
Our customized employee training and professional development programs/workshops are developed to fit your needs to provide job retention and build upon the success of your company.
SAT Preparatory Class
The SAT tests students’ verbal, mathematical and writing skills for admittance into college level programs. This course will prepare students for the SAT exam by focusing on lessons of how to approach each question. Students will practice on past SAT exams.
Dates/Times: TBA. Usually held on Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30-8:30 pm. Six paid registrants are required to establish a start date for the course. If you are interested, please email ace [at] desu.edu.
Student Tuition: $500. Includes books and access to online material for one year, a pre and post-test, as well as review of skills progression.
GRE Preparatory Class
Dates/Times: TBA. Usually held on Mondays from 6-9 p.m. The course runs for 8 weeks. Six paid registrants are required to establish a start date for the course. If you are interested, please email ace [at] desu.edu.
Student Tuition: $250; $200 for current Delaware State University students. An additional cost will be the purchase of a book as required by the instructor.
Professional Development Courses
BDL 210- Building Energy Analyst: Course Length: 4 days (36 hours)
This course examines residential energy auditing and energy efficiency analysis using the “House as a System” theory. Students learn how to provide homeowners with an overview of their energy consumption, and present opportunities to save money by conserving energy. Classroom learning, field practice, and hands on lab work are combined in this course to create a holistic learning experience. Building Energy Analyst prepares trainees to successfully challenge the Building Performance Institute Building Analyst (BPI-BA) Certification tests.

SAF 100- Occupant Education: Course Length: 2 days (16 hours)
This course examines the essential components of client communication through interactive lectures, facilitated discussions, and role play exercises. Students practice educational skills in four primary areas: 1. general communication, 2. explanations of energy efficiency, 3. explanations of health & safety, and 4. explanations of weatherization measures. Utilizing a unique approach to training – course grading is based on interactive demonstrations performed by each student and evaluated by their peers and the instructor. Occupant Education stresses the importance of education and enabling clients to actively participate in energy conservation.

BDL 330- Energy Analyst: Course Length: (10 days) 80 hours
This course examines residential energy auditing and energy efficiency analysis using the “House as a System” theory. Trainees learn how to thoroughly analyze a residential building’s energy efficiency and health & safety. All internal and external aspects of the building are discussed. The foundation, basement, main floor, attic, roof, HVAC system, combustion appliances, air leakage areas, insulation, and more are covered, as well as thermographic scan results. Students participate in multiple full energy audits during the course. Classroom learning, field practice, and lab work are combined in this course to create a holistic learning experience. Energy Analyst prepares trainees to successfully challenge the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Certification tests, and meets the training standards for the BPI Energy Auditor Certification.
Prerequisites: BPI Building Analyst Certification or approval of Coordinator of Instruction.

3B’s Captain’s School
Operator, Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) 6-Pack
This program is designed to get the mariner to the level required by the US Coast Guard to become a professional captain. A complete “hands-on” course that covers rules of the road, navigation, firefighting, boat handling, marine communications, aids to navigation, marine publications.

Masters Level Class
The Coast Guard has approved 3B’s to do the Masters upgrade from the 6PAK. It’ll be done as a separate course. The way it works is that you first get the 6PAK; then come back for the Masters course where an “upgrade” certificate will be issued so you can take more than 6 passengers on a cruise boat, head boat, water taxi, etc.

Delaware State University Project Management Course
This 2-week PMP course provides lessons, experience and the tools that are necessary to competencies and skills needed for planning and controlling projects and understanding interpersonal issues that drive successful project outcomes. With primary focus on the introduction of new products and processes, Students will examine the project management life cycle, defining project parameters, matrix management challenges, effective project management tools and techniques, and the role of project manager.

Court Reporter Training Program

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) (23 hours)
The CAPM certification training offers training to practitioners who are interested in or are just starting a career in project management, as well as project team members who wish to demonstrate their
project management knowledge. This certification denotes that the individual possesses the knowledge in the principles and terminology of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
(PMBOK® Guide), which outlines generally recognized good practices in project management.
Comp TIA security + (70 Hours)
In this course, you will build on your knowledge of and professional experience with security fundamentals, networks, and organizational security as you acquire the specific skills required to implement basic security services on any type of computer net-work. Diesel Mechanic Program with Certification
The Diesel Mechanic program is designed to prepare students to function as entry-level diesel technicians performing tasks related to modern diesel engines and commercial vehicles as well as sophisticated heavy equipment systems with electronic functions and advanced computer controls. Diesel mechanics serve their customers with job titles such as Diesel Service Technicians, Diesel Technicians, and Diesel Mechanics. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to inspect, repair, and overhaul buses and trucks, as well as to maintain and repair diesel engines.
Certification: Students who complete this comprehensive course are not only prepared for entry-level positions as technicians in diesel engine repair shops and related facilities, they will be eligible to sit for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair (G1) certification exam. Certification will issue once candidates complete and submit the 1-year work experience requirement.
Welding Program with Certification
The Welding program is designed to prepare students to function as welders. The work of welders includes joining pipe sections for oil and natural gas pipelines, working in numerous industrial environments, building ships, and supporting construction. Students can serve in positions such as Welders, Cutters, Solderers, and Brazers. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to support industrial, transportation, oil and gas, construction, and many other industries with welding skills.
Certification: In addition to facilitating entry-level welding positions, all candidates will be certified by the American Welding Society (AWS) that they successfully completed the AWS Schools Excelling through National Skill Standards Education (SENSE) Entry Welder Program in the Shielded Metal Arc Welding Process.
Electrician with Credential
The Electrician Program is designed to introduce trainees to the installation of electrical systems in structures including wiring and other electrical components, such as circuit breaker panels, switches, and light fixtures. Topics include electrical safety, electrical circuits, electrical theory, the National Electric Code®, device boxes, hand bending, raceways and fittings, conductors and cables, basic electrical construction drawings, residential electrical services, and electrical test equipment. Certification: Students who successfully complete this comprehensive course may receive the NCCER Electrical credential and prepare for the Mastery Electrical exam (Prometric).
Plumbing Professional with Credential
The Plumbing Professional program is designed to introduce trainees to the installation, maintenance, and repair of many different types of pipe systems. Topics include plumbing safety, tools of the plumbing trade, plumbing math, plumbing drawings, plastic pipe and fittings, copper tube and fittings, cast-iron pipe and fittings, carbon steel pipe and fittings, plumbing fixtures, DWV (drain, waste, and vent) systems, and water distribution systems.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this comprehensive course may receive the NCCER Plumbing Level 1 credential.
HVAC Professional with Credential
The HVAC Program is designed to introduce trainees to HVAC (heating and air-conditioning systems) technology. Topics include mathematics related to HVAC, basic electricity, heating, cooling, air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, and basic carbon steep piping practices.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this comprehensive course may receive the NCCER HVAC Level 1 credential.
Rad-101 is designed to provide the student with a better understanding of the central role of diagnostic radiology in the evaluation and management of patients through participation in reading room readouts, radiology calls, lectures, case conferences, case presentations, online assignments, interactive labs, and observation of the various imaging modalities and procedures. Students will spend 1 week in each of 4 areas of the department of their choosing. They will also participate in internship/practicum training shadowing/observing the radiology residents on call

Pharmacy Technician Certification Program - 18688-ACE936
This Comprehensive 80-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in retail or another pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician certification Board PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs generic and brand names. Throughout classroom lecture and hands-on labs, student will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the :top 200 drugs”, IV flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversion, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.

Medical Coding & Billing - 18689-ACE 981
This combined 80-hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solves insurance billing problems, manual file claims (using CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. The course covers the following areas: CPT (introduction, guidelines), and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the services and codes using manuals (CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS). After obtaining the practical work experience (six months to two years), students who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy for Professional Codes (AAPC), Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H apprentice), the American Health Information Association (AHIMA), Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Exam and/or other national certification exams.

Clinical Medical Assistant - 13070-ACE
This program is intended for students who want to prepare an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in health care. The program will train students to assist physician by performing functions related to clinical responsibilities of a medical office.
Instructions include preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, professional workplace behavior, ethic and the legal aspects of health care.
The program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs, and clinical externship opportunity at a local health care provider. To be eligible for clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

The owner of Forever Active Lifestyle and leader of the First State Steppers will lead this is a fun and energetic way to get your body moving to some great music and can be done at any fitness level. You will learn dance steps such as the cha cha, grapevine, shuffle, kick ball change, pivot, jazz square, weave, coastal step, and sailor. You will learn easy-to-follow moves to the latest line dances such as the Temptations Cha-Cha, Fine China, Cha Cha Slide, Wobble, Baltimore, Uptown Funk, Blurred Lines, Cupid Shuffle, Biker’s Shuffle and many more. Line dancing is easy on the joints and a great workout. You can get up to 6,000 steps in one class. Bring a towel. Water and a nutritious snack will be provided.

Ethical Consideration for Client Welfare and Cultural Diversity
Delaware State University’s Department of Psychology is offering behavioral healthcare providers a 3-hour online ethics training on Ethical Consideration foe Client Welfare and Cultural Diversity. This online ethics training is comprised of a power point presentation and a 20-question exam. The training is timed to last exactly 3 hours, and you must complete it in one sitting.
