University President Wilma Mishoe, Board of Trustees Chairperson Devona E.G. Williams, and J.D. Bartlett, Associate Vice President of Capital Planning and Facilities Management led the proceedings, along with Dr. Stacy Downing, Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Vita Pickrum, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Dr. Marcia Taylor, Director of Alumni Relations, and Destiny Wilkins, President of the University Residential Hall Association.

The University officials were joined on the program by Dover Mayor Robin Christensen, Shawn Garvin, Secretary of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and James Wilhelm, Executive Vice President of Public-Private Transactions for American Campus Communities.

The construction of the 600-bed residential hall began in the spring with the demolition of Laws Hall. The residential hall – which will include a dining facility, game room, study areas and offices for Residential Education administrators –  is slated to be completed in time for student occupancy in the fall semester 2019.

Ms. Wilkins said the project is needed. “Speaking for the students on campus, we are extremely excited for this new residential hall as we can benefit from the new modern environment,” she said.
