DSU Police Department presents awards and commendations

As part of the June 27 DSU Police Department 25th Anniversary Ceremony, Police Chief Donald Baynard presented Service Awards in connection with the following case:

  • Exemplary Service Awards were presented to eight DSU personnel and two from the Dover Police Department in connection with a March 19, 2025, gunshots fired case at the University Courtyard Apartments. The resulting evidence collection and interagency investigation led to the arrest of a DSU student and a 15-year-old minor. Awarded were DSU P.D.’s Lt. Gregory Elliott, Sgt. Anthony DiGirolomo, Sgt. Robert Barrett, M/Cpl. Jerry Chapusette, Ptlm. David Pridgen, Patrolwoman Micha Bowman, Security Cpl. Christian Walton, and Dispatcher Kimberly Wood. Also awarded were Dover Police’s M/Cpl. Logan Spicer and Cpl. Demetrius Stevenson.Patrolwoman Micha Bowman receives a Distinguished Service Commendation.
  • A Distinguished Service Commendation was presented to Patrolwoman Micha Bowman investigation of a March 19, 2025, anonymous report of a suspicious male who had dropped a firearm in a hallway of Tubman Laws dormitory.  As a result of her thorough investigation, Ptlwm. Bowman identified the suspect within hours of the initial report and promptly obtained an arrest warrant.
  • Distinguished Service Commendations were presented to Sgt. Robert Barrett, Ptlm. Steven Payne and Patrolwoman Asa Cross for their successful investigation of a string of burglaries that took place over a 10-day period in May 2025 at the University Courtyard Apartments. Six apartments were broken into, resulting in almost $8,000 worth of electronics and designer clothes, and causing more than $4,000 in property damage. Their extensive investigation identified three suspects, arrest warrants were obtained, and two of the three suspects were arrested, both of whom confessed to the criminal acts. Sgt. Robert Barrett.
  • Distinguished Service Commendations were presented to Sgt. Anthony DiGirolomo and Ptlm. Michael Hollis for their investigation into a Nov. 9, 2024, strong-armed robbery at Tubman Laws Hall that involved the theft of a mobile phone from a student. Their subsequent investigation determined the identities of two non-DSU suspects, leading to the arrest of both individuals.
