“HBCU/MI Funding Opportunities at AFOSR for FY18 and Beyond”

Talk by Mr. Edward J. Lee, Program Coordinator, HBCU/MI Program, Air Force Office of Scientific Research

Abstract:

The Department of Defense, through the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (ASD(R&E)), provides grant funding for a research and education program targeted to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI). The program is designed to improve the capabilities of HBCU/MI to conduct research and educate scientists and engineers in areas important to “national defense”. This program is administered by the Army Research Office, in collaboration with the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Mr. Edward J. Lee is the Program Coordinator for Historically Black Colleges and Universities / Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI’s) for the AFOSR in Arlington, VA, one of the 9 directorates that comprise the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). His talk is designed to show how AFOSR is responsible for coordinating activities that provide current funding support to minority institutions across the nation. Mr. Lee will discuss how Air Force leadership, strategic direction, and oversight in collaboration with universities research interests and direction helps to facilitate opportunities that ensure institutions of higher education are well represented within minority communities.
