Food Lion donates to the DSU Food Pantry
The DSU Pantry is now well-stocked for the rest of the fall semester and the upcoming winter break as the result significant donation of foodstuff by two local Food Lion grocery stores.
Representatives of Food Lion – with locations on Del. 8 in Dover and Del. 10 west of Dover Air Force Base – delivered 80 cases of non-perishable food items to the DSU Food Pantry, which has facilities on both the main campus of DSU and at the DSU Downtown location.
In addition, Food Lion also donated gift cards to enable the University to obtain perishable items for refrigeration in the Food Pantry facilities.
The donation represents a new relationship between DSU and Food Lion. Joann Means, a TD Bank employee, who has been involved in professional and leadership development events in DSU’s College of Business, played an instrumental role in connecting Food Lion with the University.
“Food Lion’s contribution to DSU’s Food pantry is invaluable to the university’s ability to address food insecurity challenges as students prepare for finals and the Holiday break,” said Dr. LaShawne Pryor, DSU Associate Vice President of Development.
James G. Lunnermon II, Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement & Student Experience, said Food Lion’s donation helps DSU address the diverse needs of its students, particularly in terms of their dietary requirements and food security.
“Fostering a culture of generosity at Delaware State University is essential,” Mr. Lunnermon said. “Food Lion’s donation is meaningful not only in its support of our Food Pantry facilities, but also in the example that commercial food provider demonstrates to our students concerning the power and blessing of generosity.”
