DSU kicks off Sizzling Summer Jazz Series
In partnership with Epitome of Soul, Delaware State University kicked off its Sizzling Summer Jazz Series with a July 12 performance of the Tony Cimorosi Trio at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Downtown Dover.
The well-attended concert in the intimate Schwartz Theatre featured dynamic jazz performances of Tony Cimorosi on bass, Nat Janoff on guitar, and Kevin James on drums. The group also highlighted sultry vocalist Candace Culcleasure on several selections.
The following two upcoming concerts will also be held at the historic Schwartz Theatre as part of the Summer Jazz Series:
- Saturday, July 19 – Fostina Dixon and Winds of Change, delivering soulful, saxophone-led soundscapes that celebrate the power and evolution of jazz.
- Sunday, August 3 – Tony Capella: What the Funk, closing the series with high-energy funk fusion and rhythmic brilliance.
Each performance runs from 3-5 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.), followed by a VIP Reception where guests can meet the artists and mingle with fellow music lovers.
“This series is a celebration of artistry, community, and the joy of live music,” says Synita Butler Hatcher, series curator. “We’re thrilled to create a space where world-class jazz meets local culture.”
Concert tickets are $15 for each performance, and concert tickets with the VIP reception pass are $25. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://www.desu.edu/dsu-sizzling-summer-jazz-series.
