University establishes MBA Certificate Program for Nepal institute

Thursday, March 17, 2022

Delaware State University has further expanded its global reach through the recent signing of a Letter of Intent with a Nepalese financial institution to offer an MBA certificate program to financial professionals and other students in that country.

The Letter of Intent opens the door to a partnership between the University and BFIN (Banking Finance & Insurance Institute of Nepal), which offers training, workshops and seminars for employees of the financial sector of that Asian nation.

Tony Boyle, Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management, and Dr. Binod Atreya, BFIN Managing Director and CEO, signed the agreement on March 16, which will set in motion the partnership in which the University will offer four MBA-level courses leading to a Graduate Certificate for Banking and Insurance.

The program will enable Nepalese students and working professionals to advance their careers and excel in the financial sector of the economy.

The four courses will consist of:

  • Commercial Bank Management
  • Fixed Income Markets
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • Risk Management and Insurance

Each course will total three graduate credit hours for a total of 12 credits that will be transferable toward a full Master of Business Administration degree at Delaware State University.

“The objective for this program is for the working professionals to take these courses and they increase their skills and knowledge in the area of banking and insurance,” said Dr. Atreya. “This is a golden opportunity for the Nepalese students, because they can take these courses in Nepal and then if they wish they can come to Delaware State University and complete the rest of the MBA Program courses and earn an MBA degree. Or they can continue their studies online.”

Mr. Boyle said the University welcomes the partnership with BFIN.

“We are always excited to find new partnerships and to work for ways for young people and people in general in terms of their aspirational goals,” Mr. Boyle said. “Delaware State University is open for business, open to train people, and we think we do a very good job at that.”

Jose Echeverri, Director of the University’s MBA Program, said this Graduate Certificate for Banking will introduce the enrollees to the overall MBA Program in the University’s College of Business and provide them encouragement to continue on to complete the full graduate degree.

Mr. Echeverri added once the formal agreement is signed, the University will be ready to launch the Graduate Certificate Program with BFIN in the fall of 2022.

The University and BFIN will now work toward the signing of a formal agreement in the summer.
