New DSU Leadership Appointments (October 2014)

Delaware State University has announced the following new appointments:

 

Dr. Jacqueline A. Washington

Dr. Jacqueline A. Washington has been named the new associate vice president for Academic Affairs/University College, effective Oct. 6. The newly formed College will consolidate and strengthen many DSU programs and initiatives that are central to student success. That includes providing integrated, quality, academic support services for first-year and second-year students and transfer students, the Academic Enrichment Program, the University Academic Advisement Centers, and coordination and oversight of the University’s General Education curriculum.

Stephen J. Ampersand

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Washington was the director of DSU’s General Education and University Studies. Before her arrival to DSU in 2012, she served one year as the assistant dean for Access and Academic Development Programs and six years as director of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/STEM Program, both in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Delaware.

Stephen J. Ampersand has been named the assistant vice president for Financial Aid Services, effective Oct. 6.  Mr. Ampersand will oversee all aspects of that division.

Prior to his arrival to DSU, Mr. Ampersand served for three years as the director of Financial Aid at Cecil College. He also served as an enrollment representative at Peirce College in Philadelphia. He holds an A.S. and B.S. in Business Administration, both from Peirce College; and an M.S.M. in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University.

Dr. Bill H. Means has been named the new director of the Office of Career Services, effective Sept.

Prior to his arrival, Dr. Means was the director of the Office of Internship and Career Programs at Queens University of Charlotte, N.C. He has a B.S. in Psychology from Tennessee State University, an M.A. in Adult/Higher Education from North Carolina A&T University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition:

  • Eric Hart has moved over from his previous post as the senior associate athletics director to become a major gifts officer in the Development unit. Mr. Hart’s new post will focus on obtaining major gifts for DSU Athletics.
  • Dr. Sonja R. Jackson-McCoy, formerly the associate director of Mentoring and Advising for Athletics, has been appointed as associate athletics director for Academic Services. Her major focus will be to monitor the academic success of student-athletes. The position reports to the University provost.
