15th annual DSU Prayer Service – article and photos

Friday, September 26, 2025

For the 15th consecutive year, Delaware State University and community lifted the institution up in prayer during its annual Prayer Service, held on Sept. 26 at the University’s Schwartz Center for the Arts.

With about 500 people in attendance, this year’s keynote message came from DSU’s own Dr. Terrell Holmes, Senior Associate Vice President of DSU Downtown and pastor of the Jesus is Lord Church of Deliverance Tabernacle in Georgetown, Del.Keynote speaker Dr. Terrell Holmes energized the attendees his message for DSU and the community.

Dr. Holmes anchored his message on Exodus 4:10-13, in which God tells Moses that he is to be sent to deliver the Israelites from the Egyptians, and Moses because of his insecurity tries (unsuccessfully) to persuade God to send someone else.

Dr. Holmes used that scriptural lesson to tell the DSU community that just as God’s grace was sufficient for Moses to do what needed to be done, the same provision has been made for those in the service of the University and its students.

“You have everything you need to get the work done that needs to get done,” Dr. Holmes said. “You have the grace, you have the ability, you have the gifting, you have the calling, you have the anointing, you have the power, you have the love, everything you need. There is no one else coming. God has sent you.”

Music selections were performed by the DSU Concert Choir, Londyn Grey and the JILCOD Praise and Worship Team. A dance ministry performance was given by the D’elegance Dance Team of DSU.

Prayers were given by Pastor Brian Pittman of the Kingdom Culture Church, Rev. Rita Paige, pastor of New Beginnings AME Church, and by Khoury Trotman and Nia Roberts, President and Vice President of the DSU F.O.R.C.E. Ministry.

Other Prayer Service participants included Dr. Dawn Mosley, Na’Ja Stokes, Dr. Debbie Harrington, 1st Vice Chair of the DSU Board of Trustees, the Honorable Candace Holmes, Commissioner of the Delaware Family Court and wife of the keynote speaker, and Carlos Holmes.
