DSU Day at Yankee Stadium brings together students and alumni
Hornet pride filled the Bronx recently as Delaware State University student-athletes, alumni and staff came together for DSU Day at Yankee Stadium.
The event gave student-athletes the chance to bond with alumni, share experiences and see first-hand the strength of the Hornet network beyond campus.
“The partnership with the New York Yankees provided a special opportunity to connect our baseball and women’s wrestling student-athletes with alumni from New York and New Jersey,” said Dr. Dawn Mosley, Sr. Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Events like this strengthen the Hornet community and create lasting memories for our students.”
The trip also underscored the University’s efforts to broaden alumni engagement. “The Office of Alumni Relations is excited to engage alumni in new and innovative ways,” said Tanisha Baker, Director of Strategic Alumni Engagement. “The DSU Day at Yankee Stadium was the first of many exciting experiences to come.”
Tiana M. Cephers, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, pointed to the value of showcasing Hornet pride in such a high-profile setting. “It was an incredible opportunity to experience DSU Day at Yankee Stadium,” Cephers said. “This outing brought together alumni, students, and supporters to showcase Hornet pride on one of sports’ biggest stages.”
The baseball program also valued the chance to build momentum at the start of the season. “Our team had an amazing time and a great experience at the Yankees’ game. It was a valuable team-building opportunity to kick off the fall season,” said Head Baseball Coach Pedro Swann.
The outing proved to be a memorable and enjoyable way for student-athletes to connect with Hornet graduates. Each student received a co-branded New York Yankees and DSU Hornet hat as a keepsake from the experience.
