During the event, the ECHS presented its Honoring Our Legacy Awards to Dr. Bebe Coker and Norman Oliver, both of Wilmington. The charter high school honored Dr. Coker and Mr. Oliver for their strong support of education and for their mentoring work with youths.

Mr. Oliver is a 1985 graduate of Del State, where he earned bachelor and master’s degrees both in social work. He also a past member of the University’s Board of Trustees.

Dr. Coker has been a longtime strong supporter of the University, which awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in 2014.

The Early College High School is now in its sixth year of operation, producing its first classes of graduates (132 total) in 2018 and 2019 – 83% of whom enrolled in college and 60% of those graduating classes matriculating at Delaware State University. Many of the students earned 30 or more college credit hours while at the ECHS.
