DSU President Enlisted to Present Barclays Awards in London

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

DSU President Harry L. Williams recently helped Barclays select its 2017 Citizenship Award recipients and took part in a ceremony in London, England.

The Citizenship Awards are annually presented to Barclays employees and teams of employees whose contributions help the worldwide financial institution to play a positive role in society. Dr. Williams served on a 10-member judging panel that selected 15 awardees.

Dr. Williams took a break from his mid-June trip to partner institutions in Poland and China to participate in the awards ceremony that took place at Barclays’ 31-floor world headquarters at One Churchill Place in London.

The DSU president’s involvement in the Citizenship Awards Ceremony is a continuation of the relationship that the University has had with Barclays for more than five years. Barclays Bank has awarded grants totaling over $500,000 to DSU for the past five years to support the Barclays Bank Mentor Program (BBMP). The program provides internship stipends to DSU students, who receive mentoring from Barclays’ professionals and specialized training in advanced Excel.

Furthermore, grants from Barclays for technology training have been instrumental in the establishment of the DSU Training and Technology Center in 2016. The center has conducted programs such as a six-week Mobile App Boot Camp.
