Inez O. Means Endowed Scholarship Established at DSU

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

A new $10,000 scholarship endowment has been established at DSU as a tribute to the late Inez O. Means, a strong supporter of the University.

Jimmy Means, the husband of Mrs. Means, presented the check to DSU President Harry L. Williams on April 13, which would have been her 64th birthday. Mrs. Means, who lived with her husband in New Castle, Del., passed away on April 4, 2014.

The Inez O. Means Endowed Scholarship will benefit nursing majors at DSU. Mrs. Means, who operated a successful hair salon in New Castle County, Del., was studying to become a nurse when she was stricken with cancer.

Mr. Means, the owner of a successful fire and security alarm business, said he has established the endowed scholarship in honor of the legacy and the spirit of his wife of 40 years, as well as the tremendous respect they both have had for Delaware State University throughout their lives. Although the couple has never attended DSU, they have always been great supporters of the institutions.

According to all who knew Mrs. Means, she was a warm, loving and caring woman who was a respected and vital member of her community.
