2015 DSU Speech Tourney Winners Announced

Delaware State University has named the winners of the 4th annual Speech Tournament in which contestants were judged on their three-minute presentations on the topic “Racial Bias and Undue Use of Force by Police: Connected or Conjecture?”

The contestants were judged on their speech delivery and content. The winning DSU students were:

  • The 1st place winner was Byron Dixon of Baltimore, Md. The senior mass communications major took home the top prize of $600.
  • The 2nd place winner was Gabrielle Delima of Dover, Del. The junior agriculture/pre-vet. major won $300.
  • The 3rd place winner was Michael Lee of Dover, Del. The freshman political science major won $150.
  • The Honorable Mention award was given to Messiah Sanchez of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Speech Tournament was co-sponsored by the Delaware Barristers Association, the DSU College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the DSU Law Studies Program, and the DSU Office of Student Affairs.

The prizes were awarded on April 7. The undergraduate competition took place recently in the Longwood Auditorium of the Bank of America Building on campus.
