The Delaware State University Concert Choir will celebrate the Christmas season with the performance of “A Soulful Holiday” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 in the Education and Humanities Theatre.

“A Soulful Holiday” will feature the University Concert Choir members in large and smaller ensembles and groups performing traditional holiday songs and standards, including selected adaptations of Handel’s “Messiah.”

The event will include the premiere performance of “The Mistletoe Jam,” which has been recorded by the Concert Choir and will soon be featured in a musical video. There will also be two dance performances and a telling of the story of Kwanzaa.

An orchestra – which will include a mix of regional professional and student musicians – will accompany the singers.

The concert will also feature the following guest instrumentalists:

  • Monica Hargrave, retired principal harpist of the Greenville (S.C.) Symphony Orchestra.
  • George “Spike” Nealy II, former percussionist for R&B legend James Brown
  • Joel Johnson, guitarist and preeminent music scholar
  • Otis Davis, former guitarist with the late jazz musician Donald Byrd.
