  • 14th institution in the U.S. to offer the financial planning minor
  • 5 out of 107 HBCUs offer this program
  • Second of only two HBCU’s to offer the financial planning program in College of Business, seceding Clark Atlanta University

Facts on Diversity within the Profession

  • “Nearly one-third of advisors fall into the 55 to 64 age range,” reports Kenton Shirk, associate director at Cerulli.
  • According to Investmentnews.com, 79% of financial advisors are white, 8.1% are African American, 7.1% are Hispanic and 5.7% are Asian.
  • According fa-mag.com, women only make up 23% of the total CFP-Certified Professionals.

Given the lack of diversity within the financial planning field, there is a paramount need for Certified Financial Planners and professionals of color as well as women. By offering this rewarding minor program, Delaware State University seeks to change the face of the average financial planner and also, make the financial services industry more accessible to minorities. The program, headed by a woman, is a testament to the forward motion of the industry as well as its promising and inclusive future.
