Delaware State University’s College of Business held its 4th annual Black Male Initiative (BMI) Conference on Feb. 19, filling the Bank of America Building with high school males from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

More than 500 male teens from high schools in Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania attended the event.

The high school youths were exposed to a wealth of topics and the related perspectives and experiences of participating professionals from inside and outside of the University. Fifteen breakout sessions covered topics such as digital identity, personal branding, emotional intelligence, mental health & manhood, financial freedom, developing professional habits, and more.

The event also featured a short film drama titled “I’m Good” by screenwriter/director Dr. James Daniels III, owner of Don’t Judge Me Productions. The film’s lead actor is Michael Nicholls-Pierce, a DSU Class of 2017 alumnus and currently the Director of Communication for the University’s College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology.

The film explores faith, mental health, and everyday conversations around the phrase “I’m good.”

The BMI event also provided the attending teens with the opportunity to apply to matriculate at DSU. Ten students did so and were accepted for enrollment in the fall of 2026.
