Community Health Worker Summit held at DSU
The Community Health Workers Association of Delaware held their 5th annual CHW Summit on Oct. 15 at Delaware State University.
DSU’s Public Health Program is also connecting with the CHW Association to bolster its importance to health community through its new Community Health Worker Certificate Program.
The CHW Summit, held in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center, was a gathering of community health professionals, allies, and partners from all over the State of Delaware to celebrate, educate, and empower the CHW workforce. The daylong Summit featured a variety of session topics that included safety issues for CHWs, communication and boundaries for such professionals, and other Association-related topics.
It is expected that the DSU CHW Certificate Program will be among current training providers in the state who will apply for the Association’s formal Certified Community Health Worker credentials.
Once awarded those credentials, DSU and other training providers will be approved as training vendors through which the new credentialing system for community health workers will be established in the State of Delaware
The Community Health Workers Association of Delaware’s (CHWAD) mission is to collectively advocate, empower, educate, connect, and support our communities to ensure health equity, social justice, and optimal wellbeing. The CHWAD was developed in 2019 by CHWs, for CHWs, and with our community in mind. The CHWAD is a collaborative organization composed of CHWs, allies, and partners throughout the state, all of whom are committed to serving the needs of CHWs in support of our overall mission.
