DSU showcases educational opportunities at DAFB events
Delaware State University deepened its partnership with Dover Air Force Base in August through two events that highlighted its commitment to serving military personnel and expanding educational opportunities.
DSU Hosts Military Leadership on Campus
Last month, DSU welcomed Lt. Col. Diaundra Walker and MSG Varlensia Relaford of the Dover AFB 436th Force Support Squadron for the university’s Base to Campus Tour series. Guided by senior Adar Moore, the visitors explored key sites including the Claiborne D. Smith Administration Building, the Early Childhood Innovation Center, and historic Loockerman Hall.
A highlight came at Tuskegee Airmen Plaza, where Walker, an alumna of Tuskegee University, reflected on the shared legacy of HBCUs and the U.S. Armed Forces. The tour also stopped at the Greek Plots, where Walker posed proudly at the Alpha Kappa Alpha area, underscoring the importance of sorority bonds and campus traditions.
MSG Relaford praised the growing partnership, saying, “The Base to Campus Tour was another example of how DSU is intentional about creating space for service members to feel seen, supported, and academically empowered.”
Fall 2025 Open House at Dover AFB
Soon after, DSU joined Wilmington University and the Dover AFB Education & Training Center for the Fall 2025 Open House at the Bedrock Innovation Lab. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and drew more than 30 service members interested in educational opportunities that fit their schedules and career paths.
Participants had the chance to learn about CCAF course offerings, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, military tuition assistance, GI Bill® benefits, SkillBridge opportunities, and CLEP/DSST testing. University and education center staff spent time in one-on-one conversations with attendees, offering personalized guidance to help them balance their academic goals with military responsibilities.
To improve future programming, organizers introduced a new QR code survey for attendees to share their interests and preferences for in-person or online learning. Light refreshments were served, creating a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged dialogue and connection.
Looking Ahead
These back-to-back events set the stage for expanded outreach, including joint education programs, the launch of DSU’s Military-Affiliated Student Orientation, and upcoming initiatives for National Veterans and Military Families Month in November.
“Serving the military community requires more than recognition. It demands real partnerships, flexible pathways, and a shared vision for success,” said Lolita Treadwell, Director of DSU@Dover AFB.
As DSU builds on its Military Friendly Gold Status for 2025-2026, the university will continue to design high-impact programs that strengthen its base-to-campus connection and serve those who serve.
