DSU Cooperative Extension hosts small-space gardening workshop

Wednesday, June 4, 2025

Delaware State University’s Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the Kent County Master Gardener Volunteers, recently hosted a hands-on workshop at the DSU Downtown Community Garden focused on creative and practical ways to grow gardens in small spaces.

Held as a live demonstration, the event offered attendees interactive learning experiences aimed at transforming patios, balconies and other compact areas into thriving green spaces.

The workshop featured four distinct gardening methods: lasagna gardening, vertical gardening, square-foot gardening and container gardening. Participants rotated through each demonstration station, guided by experienced Master Gardener Volunteers who shared tips, techniques and examples for applying each method at home.

The atmosphere was both educational and uplifting, with attendees expressing excitement and gratitude for the chance to explore new gardening strategies suited to their lifestyles. Whether beginners or experienced gardeners, participants left inspired to grow more, even in limited spaces.
