Festivities began with a Tree Scavenger Hunt from April 1 to 16, encouraging participants to explore the campus and learn about its diverse tree species. On April 23, students and staff gathered for the official opening ceremony, followed by the “Give a Hoot” nest box building activity, which created safe spaces for local screech owls. That same day, a student-led panel featuring both undergraduate and graduate students met in the MLK Student Union to discuss the importance of environmental restoration. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with faculty, staff, and peers to share their perspectives.

On April 24, the celebration continued with a Woodland Trail Cleanup to restore access to the College Woods. Interactive sessions on environmental monitoring and water quality testing were led by the ONE Health Lab and DSU Water Quality Lab. Participants were invited to bring water samples for chemical testing. Later that afternoon, attendees viewed Trash & Burn, a documentary on environmental justice, followed by a multidisciplinary panel discussion.

The week concluded on April 25 with a Tree Labeling Activity, reinforcing DSU’s designation as a Tree Campus USA and highlighting the importance of tree conservation and education.

Earth and Arbor Day activities wrapped up April 26 during the DSU Downtown Festival. Students from the DSU Environmental Alliance Group, MANNRS, and FAA hosted hands-on activities and supported the ONE Health Lab with oyster restoration and wetlands demonstrations. Participants discussed the ecological and economic value of oyster beds and wetlands.

Thank you to all who participated and helped make a difference. Your efforts continue to grow a greener, healthier future.
