Delaware Online has recognized three people connected with Delaware State University as being among “The Most Influential People of 2024.

So honored are:

DSU Athletics Director Alecia Shields-Gadson – She is noted on the publication’s “Most Influential in Athletics” list for her oversight of DSU’s six men’s and 13 women’s athletics teams and her work to raise DSU’s reputation in the First State, regionally, and across the nation. The distinction also recognizes AD Shield-Gadson’s endeavors to raise money for athletic-facility improvements.Margie Lopez Waite

Margie Lopez Waite, DSU Dreamers Advisor – Noted on the Delaware Online’s “Most Influential in Education,” Ms. Lopez Waite has championed bilingualism as an asset in the First State education through her founding of the Las Américas ASPIRA Academy in Newark, Del., for which she is also the CEO. She is also noted as a prominent Latino community advocate, for her service on several boards, and her powerful voice on issues of equitable funding for public and private schools in the state.

Darren Rainey, DSU Program Manager for DSU’s Recruitment & Retention of Diverse Educators initiative – Also named on the publication’s “Most Influential in Education,” Mr. Rainey made the list for his work since 2022 to attract people and students of color to the profession of teaching.
