DSU’s College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences in conjunction with its Spring Directing Class will present the production of George C. Wolfe’s The Colored Museum in two 7:30 p.m. performances on Thursday and Friday, March 16-17 in the Education & Humanities Theatre.

Both performances are free and open to the public.

The play – with music written by Kysia Bostic and lyrics by George C. Wolfe – is “a satire with 11 ‘exhibits’ which undermine old and new black stereotypes and return to the facts of what being black means.”

The tour stops of The Colored Museum will include time aboard the Celebrity Slave Ship, in the prophetic presence of Miss Roj, the opening of LaLa’s singing debut, as well as an encounter with the Soldier with a Secret. Wolfe states, “The legacy of the past must be both embraced and overcome.”

This production will feature the following student actors: Moala Bannavti, Emily Clark, Amira K. Davis, Japaira M. Ellison, Dana A. Matthews, Quiara Mayes, Akilah McCrorey, Anthony McIver, Courtney K. Porter and Shae’ Ross. The student directors are: Adrian Hospedale, Asha Moses, JaQuan Romeo, Adnett E. Tomlinson, Jasmine J. Walker and Jahselah White.

Tannah Morris is the musical director; Andrew Hazzard is a guest director, and the Rev. Dr. Shirlyn Henry Brown is the artistic director.

The Colored Museum has adult themes and language.
