Nikita Robins-Thompson has been in the field of education for over twenty years. During this time, she’s assisted students in identifying, preparing, and implementing the tools necessary for academic success. She loves her time with students because it allows her to deposit little pearls of wisdom designed to build character and to provide a critical view of life. During her tenure at DSU, she has worked as a transfer admission counselor, academic advisor and she’s taught freshman seminar.

Nikita holds a bachelor degree in Psychology from North Carolina Central University and a Master Degree in School Counseling from Wilmington University. Her Motto: Let your life be a reflection of your worth…Education is key! Nikita lives in New Castle, Delaware with her husband Jarvis Thompson and son Jayden.

Randy Howard Smith is a athletic academic advisor at Delaware State University and has his BA in sports management and a MS in Sports Administration. Randy Smith has worked at Delaware State University since 2012 and has devoted his career to working with student athletes. He has extensive experience working with athletes as an advisor. He has eight years of experience and has worked with numerous sports teams. He currently works with Men’s Basketball, Softball, Soccer and Lacrosse. 

Randy lives in Clayton, Delaware with his wife Lawan Lanier-Smith and his two children Jabari and Lauryn Smith.

Rachel A. Jennings

Rachel Jennings currently serves as the Athletic Academic Advisor for the football team. Prior to her start at Delaware State in June 2016, she was a high school English teacher at Samoana High School in Utulei, American Samoa. Additionally, she served as the Director of Academics for two non-profit organizations: Fieldhouse 100 and Pasefika International Sports Alliance. Both organizations worked with college football coaches recruiting the territory of American Samoa. Her years spent with these groups helped close to 100 student-athletes earn full athletic scholarships to a variety of colleges and universities. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University.

Ahira Y. Smith is currently an academic advisor for student-athletes at Delaware State University.  Arriving onto the campus in 2012, she has served as Director of Academic Advising for the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences, where she worked with students in various majors in the field, including but not limited to: Food Science, Nutritional Science, and Textile and Apparel Studies.  Ms. Smith serves on several different committees involving Academic Advising, Career Services, Communication, Networking, Retention, and Student Success.

Prior to joining the Delaware State University Hornet Family in 2012, Ms. Smith had served as an academic advisor for 5 (Five) years with the Center for Academic Excellence at North Carolina A&T State University for both athletics and undecided/undeclared students.

She received her Bachelor of Sciences in Physical Education (K-12) from The Kentucky State University in 2000 and her Masters of Education in Recreation and Leisure from Bowling Green State University in 2002.

Kelley Bickham rejoins the staff in November 2017 to serve as Athletic Academic Advisor for baseball and women’s basketball, equestrian, golf and tennis. 

Kelley Bickham has worked in collegiate athletics for over 16 years as college coach, athletic advisor and athletic administration.  She returns to DSU from the University of New Mexico where she worked as the athletic certification officer.  As a former track and field student-athlete at the University of Arkansas, Mrs. Bickham earned her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Education-Kinesiology and Masters of Science in Sport Administration from Grambling State University.  Kelley lives in Lewes, Delaware with her husband David and four kids Cameron and Calysta, 16 years old, Kai, 12 and Kaven, 7.
