SAS Appeals Procedure
In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), and Delaware State University’s commitment to equal access for people with disabilities, an appeal process has been established for students who believe they have been denied reasonable accommodations by the Student Accessibility Services Office (SAS).
If there is a dispute as to whether an individual has a disability or whether the documentation provided is adequate, if SAS and the student with a disability cannot agree on a reasonable accommodation, or if SAS denies an accommodation, the student may begin the appeals process.
The University has identified the Assistant Vice President of University College, Dr. Cassandra Green, as the individual by whom all appeals for reasonable accommodations will be reviewed. In order to initiate this process, the student must submit a written Letter of Appeal to the Assistant Vice President of University College within thirty (30) business days of the alleged denial, unless extensions for good cause are provided.

The Letter of Appeal must include:
- Name and University ID number of appellant
- Basis for the appeal
- The remedy or relief sought
- Any supporting information
Upon receipt of the Letter of Appeal, the Assistant Vice President of University College will promptly review the appeal. A determination will be provided to the appellant in writing within ten (10) business days. In the event where the Assistant Vice President of University College – acting as the Interim Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services – denied the original request for reasonable accommodations, the Letter of Appeal will be reviewed by the current Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services, Ann Knettler-Smith.
