Delaware State University’s Hornet Youth Enrichment (HYE) Summer Camps and Programs team is excited that your child(ren) may be spending time with us this summer.   

DSU Hornets Youth Enrichment provides camps and programs that will engage STEM activities, cultivate life skills for both personal and academic success, build and enhance participants’ self-esteem. We provide youth engagement activities and camps year-round

What to Expect

We hope that you and your children will have a wonderful experience while involved with the summer enrichment program of Delaware State University. Rules will be established on the first day of camp for the children. Trusted employees/volunteers will be around your child at all times to meet the individual needs of the campers.

What is the camp Behavior Policy?

Discipline Policy:

Fighting/Bullying/Inappropriate Sexual Behavior:

Those caught actively fighting/bullying or involved in inappropriate sexual behavior will immediately meet with our Program Director, a call to the parent/guardian will be made, the child will be sent home Immediately and NO refund will be granted. If another camper is injured as a result of the intentional actions of another person, Delaware State University public safety will be notified!

Disruptive Behavior:

Any other form of disruptive behavior is subject to our three strike policy.

First Offense:   Camper will be given a warning from their counselor or a staff member, and incident will be documented.

Second Offense: Any repeated behavior or combination of inappropriate actions will result in a meeting with our Program Director, and a call to parent/Guardian will be made.

Third Offense:  Any behavior that leads to a 3rd incident which a counselor must resolve will result in the dismissal of the camper immediately. No refund will be granted!

When does camp registration open?

Camp registration opens on February 1st

How can I register?

You can register by visiting the summer webpage and clicking  ”Register” located under each camp description. 

Do you offer financial assistant?

We do not offer financial assistance at this time.  We do offer a payment plan program. (see camp listing for payment option information)

Is there a registration deadline?

Yes.  The registration deadline is two (2) weeks prior to the camp’s start date

How do I pay for camp?

Once registered you may pay electronically through the registerblast, bring your payment into HYE office or mail your payment. You can make checks or money orders out to “DSU Youth Enrichment ”.

What are the camp hours, drop off and pick up time?

Camp hours are Monday –Friday 8 am – 5 pm
Drop off: 7:45 am – 8:15 am
Pick up: 4:30 pm – 5:15 pm

Do you offer before and after care services?

Yes.  Parents can drop their child(ren) off as early as 7:30 am and  pick up as late as 5:30 pm for an additional fee of $60.00 per week

Is there a fee for late pick up?

Yes. The late fee is $1.00 per every minute after 5:15 pm.  The late payment must be paid in cash and is due upon pick up.  The child(ren) cannot return until payment is received.

What is the camp daily schedule?

HYE camp schedule is as follows for Mon.,Tues.,Thurs.:

7:45 am -8:15 am: drop off
8:30 am- 11:15 am: classroom
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Lunch
12:45 pm-3:15 pm: Classroom
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Recess
4:30 pm -5:15 pm: Pick Up

HYE camp schedule is as follows for Wednesday:

7:45 am -8:15 am: drop off
8:30 am- 11:00 am: pool
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Lunch
12:45 pm-3:15 pm: Classroom
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Recess
4:30 pm -5:15 pm: Pick Up

HYE camp schedule is as follows for Friday:

7:45 am -8:15 am: drop off
8:30 am- 11:15 am: classroom
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Lunch
12:45 pm-3:15 pm: Classroom
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Student to Parent presentation
4:30 pm -5:15 pm: Pick Up

Will breakfast, Lunch and snack be provided?

Lunch will be provided.  We recommend that each camper eat breakfast before arriving to camp. We do not allow eating outside of lunch and afternoon recess. Lunch period is one hour. Camp counselors, assistants and campers will sit as a group during the lunch hour. If your child(ren) has special dietary needs, please let us know upon registration.  Campers are allowed to bring snack for afternoon break.    Parents must provide snacks and drinks for child(ren) during afternoon recess.  We DO NOT provide snacks.

Will the children ever leave campus?  Field trips, etc.?

Yes.  There are several camps that have field trips such as:  Culinary, Youthful Essence and DSU TV

Can my child participate in the same camp more than once?


Can my child(ren) attend a camp outside their age/grade category? For example “If my child is in 8th grade but interested in a camp that starts at 9th grade can they attend”?

We will contact the instructor and the final answer is left to their discretion

How many slots are available for each camp?

The majority of the camps have a max. of 12 students.  There are some that only have 10 seats

Is there a waitlist if the camp I want to register for is full?

Yes.  If a seat becomes available the HYE office will contact who is next on list to inquire about interest.

Do you make accommodations for food allergies?

Yes.  We create the safest environment possible for our campers.  They all eat in the university’s cafeteria that accommodates students with food allergies

My child takes medication; will I be able to send the medication with her to camp?

Yes.  Our camp manager administers necessary camper medication.  If a camper takes medication, please indicate that in the registration form and bring the medication in the original container with camper’s name

Who are your staff members and how old are they?

HYE staff members consist of the university’s faculty and students.  All staff members are 18 years and older.  All staff members have a required Federal background check and have been certified Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

What not to bring to camp:

 Campers will not need to bring anything with them because any necessity will be provided for them. The camp will not be responsible for items lost that are brought with the children. We advise you to not bring anything that can be lost/stolen. Electronic devices may distract the campers. We ask that campers refrain from using cell phones, iPods/iPads/tablets, game devices and radios during camp hours.  WEAPONS OF ANY SORT, ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND TOBACCO ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

What can my child wear to camp:

Camper’s clothing should provide adequate coverage during camp hours. Campers will be involved in several activities and will need shoes that provide complete coverage of the foot. Clothing that reveals undergarments, midriffs; swim wear or short shorts are prohibited. Clothing with inappropriate logos or topics such alcohol, tobacco, drugs or depicting any type of racial discrimination should not be worn.
