TESOL/BILINGUAL EDUCATION (MA) The Master of Arts in TESOL/Bilingual Education degree program is designed to provide students with an advanced level of expertise and thorough training on the theory and practice of teaching English to non-native speakers of English and/or bilingual learners. It readies students with the pedagogical and intellectual preparations necessary to teach in K-12 Multilingual Learner (MLL) or dual language immersion classrooms as well as in colleges, universities and language institutes both in the United States and internationally. Further, students with a pre- or co-requisite K-12 teaching certification earn secondary certification in Teacher of English Learners or Bilingual Teacher.

Students pursuing the Bilingual Education track must evidence language proficiency in an additional target language. | * ENGL-520 Foundations of Bilingual Education is a required elective selection for students pursuing Bilingual Education certification.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS APPLICANTS MUST EITHER: Show evidence of an earned baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university in an aligned discipline with a minimum undergraduate cumulative 3.0 GPA, possess the ability to do graduate work of high quality, and meet language proficiency requirements for English (and target language for those pursuing bilingual education); OR Be a current undergraduate student with senior status, submit a letter of recommendation from their advisor in addition to the other two required letters below, and: TESOL/Bilingual Education Only: Have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA (Students may apply during their junior year and must complete their bachelor’s degree prior to beginning the final semester of study in the MA program.) Dual Degree Program: Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. (Students may apply during their junior year and may complete the TESOL/Bilingual Education course requirements during their senior year, but must complete their bachelor’s degree prior to beginning the MEd Educational Leadership coursework.) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 2 professional letters of recommendation Statement of purpose indicating educational career goals and experience International applicants without a college degree from a U.S. institution: Minimum TOEFL score of 90 (iBT), 576 (paper) or IELTS 6.5 Applicants pursuing K-12 certification (only) — completion or concurrent enrollment in a primary teacher education program
APPLICATION DEADLINES ROLLING ADMISSIONS with priority given to applications received by April 1 for fall admission and October 1 for spring admission. Enrollment is contingent upon receipt of all required documents no later than two weeks prior to the enrollment period for U.S. applicants and four weeks prior for international students.
DUAL TESOL & EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP DEGREE The dual master’s degree program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages/Bilingual Education and Educational Leadership prepares educators for prominent leadership and service positions in schools and other institutions, while also readying them to meet the needs of bilingual and English as a second language learners. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (MEd) The Educational Leadership master’s degree program develops school leaders through new understandings related to leadership models and frameworks that support diverse, inclusive, equitable and safe learning environments. The program encourages academic and personal excellence through rigorous learning experiences in the areas of strategic leadership, ethical and reflective leadership, community leadership and instructional leadership.
