The
Intramural Sports Program is a student
service. Upon paying student fees you
are provided with an opportunity to participate
in an organized and structured program.
This right is taken away when one demonstrates
poor sportsmanship or violates the policies,
rules, or guidelines which govern participation.
Our
goal and responsibility is to provide
and create a healthy atmosphere for everyone
involved. For this reason, the sportsmanship
policy is strictly enforced. We ask for
your help in developing a more positive
atmosphere.
It
is the responsibility of each participant
to do everything possible to ensure that
the game atmosphere is friendly and good-natured.
The
following rules and policies will be
used as guidelines for penalties and
disciplinary action for poor sportsmanship:
A.
No player, manager, or spectator shall:
- Use
abusive language; verbally or physically
threaten any other palyer(s), spectator(s),
or intramural employee(s) before, during,
or after a game.
- Disrespectfully
address the game officials/umpires
and/or supervisor(s). Only the team
captain may courteously address the
game officials/umpires and/or supervisor(s)
concerning the interpretation of a
rule.
- Intentionally
strike, push, or trip another player(s),
spectator(s), or intramural employee(s).
Any physical contact is considered
fighting. Fighting is not allowed.
Those fighting will be ejected and
removed from the playing area.
- Mistreat
the facilities, equipment, or supplies
of the Intramural Sports Program.
- Use
or be under the influence of alcohol
or other dependent drugs on campus
property. Intramural supervisor(s)
reserve the right to dismiss anyone
abusing this rule.
B.
Penalties and discipline for unsportsmanlike
conduct:
- Any
player, manager, and/or spectator ejected
from a league or tournament game will
be ineligible for their next scheduled
(league or tournament) game. Each time
thereafter they will miss their next
(league or tournament) game.
- Players,
managers, teams, and/or spectators
can be barred from intramural participation
for a period of one year for extreme
behavior. This extreme behavior is
determined by the Intramural Director.
All decisions will be final.
- During
a contest, if it is in the opinion
of the game officials/umpires or the
intramural supervisor(s), that either
or both teams are making a travesty
of the game, the game shall be forfeited
and the offending team(s) will receive
a forfeit for the game.
- Any
individual who verbally abuses and/or
threatens an intramural employee, player,
and/or a spectator can be unconditionally
barred from all intramural sports for
the period of one year from the time
of infraction.
- Any
individual who physically threatens
and/or abuses an intramural employee,
a player, and/or a spectator shall
be unconditionally barred from all
intramural sports for at least a period
of one year from the time of infraction.
- Any
individual who mistreats the facility
and/or intramural equipment and causes
damage will be held liable for all
repairs and replacements. They may
also be disciplined further or legally
prosecuted.
- Unsportsmanlike
behavior will be handled on an individual
basis and the penalty and/or disciplinary
action is entirely up to the Intramural
Director's best judgment.
- If
any participant or spectator disagrees
with the disciplinary action towards
them, they may present their case to
the Intramural Director. This must
be done within three working days after
the incident.
Special
Note: Because there are many reasons
why an individual can be ejected from
a contest, further penalties, and/or
disciplinary action may be implied,
combined, or reduced. These judgments
will be left entirely up to the Intramural
Director's best judgment, for which
the director feels necessary to impose
for the betterment of the Intramural
Sports Program. |

To
all prospective flag football participants
The captain or coach who abuses an official or opponent
with flagrant profanity will be ejected from the
contest and will be suspended from playing or coaching
for a period of 30 days. That particular individual
will be asked to leave the playing area. If he or
she does not comply with the request it will constitute
a forfeit for the team.
Participants
who physically abuse (fight) an official
or another player will be suspended from
further participation in the Intramural
Sports / Recreation Program for the balance
of the academic year. Verbal threats
will also be cause for suspension and
may result in judicial action.
Captains
or coaches refusing to give the name(s)
of an ejected player(s) will face possible
suspension from Intramural Sports play
for the remainder of the academic year.
Questionable conduct will be dealt with
by the Intramural Sports/Recreation Office
through the Office of Student Activities
and/or Judicial Boards. Participants
are reminded that participating in the
Delaware State University Intramural
Sports/Recreation program is a privilege,
not a right!
A
part of the philosophy of the Intramural
Sports/Recreation Program is that good
sportsmanship and fun is vital to every
sport or contest. The following will
be considered evidence of unsportsmanlike
conduct:
- Profanity
- Intentional
delay of game
- Aruging
with officials concerning decisions
- Derogatory
and abusive remarks toward an opponent
- Teams
or individuals showing disregard for
the rules or policies of the Intramural
Sports/Recreation Program
- Fighting
Zero
Tolerance Policy
To all prospective players:
Please
be advised that the University operates
under a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
ZERO
TOLERANCE violation(s) will result
in the following:
- A
speedy adjudication hearing within
2-5 working days from the time the
infraction report is received in the
Office of Student Judicial Affairs
- If
found guilty, a sanction of one year
suspension, minimum, to expulsion
- Immediate
removal from the University should
the violator be deemed dangerous to
self and others
- For
weapons, the sanction is expulsion
from the University if found guilty
The
University must do everything within
its power to provide a safe campus and
one that is free of violence and illegal
activities. The University is an environment
for creative thinking and learning, and
everyone must do what they can to ensure
that this kind of environment is maintained.
