Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC)
Sponsored by the National Institute of Health
Mission Statement
- To serve as a catalyst to increase the number of minorities majoring in science and interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in any area of the biomedical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology).
- Help the selected students increase their chances for acceptance in a graduate program by acquiring the necessary academic background.
Selection Criteria
- Students are selected from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Psychology.
- Students must possess a GPA of 3.50 or above in both the major and cumulative.
The Award
- Each MARC trainee is awarded a MARC scholorship for a period of 24 months (during the Junior and Senior Years). The Scholorship pays:
- Tuition
- Stipend ($9,492 for 12 months)
- Summer Internships ($3,000 - $4,000)
Additional Awards
All MARC graduating seniors are eligible to apply for MARC/Pre-Doctoral Scholorships.

- Participating Departments: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, & Psychology
- Current GPA > 3.5
- Complete Extramural Summer Research
- Participation for at least 2 years
Program Requirements
Each MARC trainee must:
- Follow the MARC curriculum
- Attend MARC seminars
- Participate in extramural funded summer research
- Make research presentations
- Attend GRE preparatory class
- Maintain a 3.50 GPA
- Apply to graduate schools

- Research Presentations at National Scientific Meetings

- Specialized MARC Seminars matching seniors with Graduate School Administrators and Faculty
- Local (MARC High School Symposium) and Natioal Recruitment Efforts
- Full Assistance for the Graduate Application Process
- Continued Evaluation and Preparation for Quality Graduate Program Success
- Parental Involvement
Hard work + Determination = 100% Graduate School Enrollment with full financial support. Extensive MARC Trainee Publication Record.
