Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC)

Sponsored by the National Institute of Health

Mission Statement
  • To serve as a catalyst to increase the number of minorities majoring in science and interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in any area of the biomedical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology).
  • Help the selected students increase their chances for acceptance in a graduate program by acquiring the necessary academic background.
Selection Criteria
  • Students are selected from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Psychology.
  • Students must possess a GPA of 3.50 or above in both the major and cumulative.
The Award
  • Each MARC trainee is awarded a MARC scholorship for a period of 24 months (during the Junior and Senior Years). The Scholorship pays:
    • Tuition
    • Stipend ($9,492 for 12 months)
    • Summer Internships ($3,000 - $4,000)

Additional Awards

All MARC graduating seniors are eligible to apply for MARC/Pre-Doctoral Scholorships.

Program Requirements

Each MARC trainee must:

  • Follow the MARC curriculum
  • Attend MARC seminars
  • Participate in extramural funded summer research
  • Make research presentations
  • Attend GRE preparatory class
  • Maintain a 3.50 GPA
  • Apply to graduate schools
