Mrs. Jarso J. Saygbe is from Liberia, West Africa. She has 10+ years of experience in academia at university and community college levels specializing in minority/disadvantaged, women, and first generation student advisement. She currently serves as the Director of Academic Advisement in the College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. Her core professional interest has always been and continues to be student development. Her motto on advising is: "advising is teaching" and she teaches students to acknowledge their passions, to seek out opportunities that allow them to pursue their life goals. Her academic credentials include an MA and BA from Rhode Island College. In addition, she has completed course work leading towards a doctorate in Higher Education Administration at Johnson & Wales University.
Prior to coming to Delaware State University she was an academic advisor for the University of Rhode Island’s Talent Development Program. Mrs. Saygbe has taught Women & Gender studies courses at the University Rhode Island. Her research interests include gender development, primarily policy and social inequalities in developing countries that restrict empowerment with a particular focus on gender and class inequalities in Africa.
