CMNST Staff-AMayol


Dr. Ana-Rita Mayol received her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Cornell University and completed a postdoctoral appointment in Food Chemistry at Cornell University and Consorzio di Ricerca Lattiero Caseario. At University of Puerto Rico–Rio Piedras Campus she directed a vigorous Science Education research group that worked in the development, implementation of innovative interdisciplinary curricular material for K-12 and laboratory experiences for advanced undergraduate courses incorporating nanoscience in the curriculum, and assessment of student learning in the capstone courses. She directed several education, outreach and student training programs including NSF-EPSCoR-Institute of Functional Nanomaterials, NASA-URC-Center for Advanced Nanoscale Materials (CANM), PR-AGEP, PR-LSAMP and PR-GK-12, where she build a strong network of interdisciplinary researchers and educators, reaching more than 5000 people each year.  She has occupied leadership positions at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras such as Academic Coordinator for the Department of Chemistry, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in the College of Natural Sciences, Project Director of several NSF programs, and Associate Director of NASA-CANM. Dr. Mayol has served as Director of Special Programs at CMNST since August 2012. She is leading new initiatives in student training, education and outreach efforts within DSU, CMNST and in collaboration with non-profit organizations. She is currently the Associate Director of the NIH-MARC U*STAR program, Program Coordinator of the Title III- Science and Mathematics Skills Development Program (SMS-DP), Director of the Kent County Science Fair, and Co-Director of the Explorer’s Club.
