  DSU Living and Learning Commons

Delaware State University converted the Dover Sheraton Hotel into a multi-use facility -- the DSU Living and Learning Commons -- that include student housing and classroom space to meet needs associated with the University’s enrollment growth.

The residential facility, which is available to upperclassmen, opened in August 2013 with approximately 300 beds in double-occupancy rooms with private baths.

Rooms are assigned for those eligible to live in this new facility, which offer a traditional on-campus housing experience with laundry facilities, various meeting and study spaces, and snack and vending machine areas. The facility will have same-sex rooms and co-ed floors.

Who is eligible to apply?

DSU Living and Learning Commons will house upperclassmen (sophomores, juniors and seniors), international students, honors students and transfer students.

How do returning students apply?

  • The housing application process begins April 15 and ends April 30 for returning students
  • Returning students must pay a $200 housing deposit (choose "DSU LL Commons" in Nelnet Quickpay Services) now in order to receive the online housing application link in their DSU email account on April 15, 2014.
  • Returning students must be registered for classes
  • Returning students must have a medical form on file in Student Health Services

Renewal Process for Returning Students - you must repay the $200 deposit using the above payment information and be registered for Fall 2014.

How do transfer students apply?

  • The housing application process for transfer students starts April 15 through July 15, 2014
  • Transfer students must be accepted to the University before they can apply for housing
  • Transfer students must activate their DSU email account (follow step 1 in the acceptance letter)
  • Transfer students must pay a $200 housing deposit (choose "DSU LL Commons" in Nelnet Quickpay Services) now in order to receive the online housing application link in their DSU email account on April 15, 2014

Cost per semester

  • The housing cost per student ranges from $3,995 a semester to $4,995 a semester depending on the type of room and floor.
  • A limited number of private single rooms will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Students who reside in the DSU Living and Learning Commons will be required to purchase, at minimum, the 10 meal plan option.

Room amenities

Each double-occupancy room will include:

  • 2 full-size beds
  • 2 desks with chairs
  • 1 closet
  • 1 wardrobe
  • A private bathroom
  • Air-conditioning
  • A wireless Internet connection

Facility operation and on-site staff

The Commons will be operated by DSU’s Department of Housing and Residential Education in the Division of Student Affairs and falls under its rules and regulations. The staff will include a live-in resident director, resident assistants, front desk staff and on-site security officers.

Parking

Students who reside at the DSU Living and Learning Commons will be allowed to have cars at that facility; they will be given arrangements for University parking on campus as well. Faculty, staff and students must register any motor vehicle that they park or drive on University property. For more information on vehicle registration and parking regulations, visit public safety.

Shuttle service

For students without cars, a shuttle service between DSU’s main campus and the new residential facility will be provided, operating on a 20 – 30 minute round trip schedule. The shuttle will run Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Shuttle service for DSU special events may also be provided.

Commons Student Advisory Council

Students who reside at the DSU Living and Learning Commons will be invited to join the Commons Student Advisory Council to help plan its future use and development.
