As the  spring semester progresses, it is time to start thinking about the next academic year. The Office of Financial Aid has posted information below to assist you with your financial aid planning. 

Please e-mail us at faid@desu.edu if you have any questions.  You can visit the office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; the office is open until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.  There is no appointment necessary.

January

• Complete DSU’s Returning and Transfer Student Scholarship Application online at desu.edu/scholarships.
• Begin gathering the information that you will need to complete your federal income tax returns.  For more streamlined awarding, you should complete your taxes before completing the FAFSA application, when possible.

February 

• File your federal income tax returns electronically.
• File your FAFSA after filing your taxes to get an early financial aid award.

March

• Early awarding for returning students with valid FAFSAs will begin on March 1st.
• Parent PLUS loan and Private loan applications will be accepted starting March 1st.
• Returning and Transfer Student Scholarship application closes on March 15th.
• Priority FAFSA deadline for all students is March 15th.
• Students with FAFSAs selected for verification –  request your tax transcripts from the IRs now

April

• Complete a summer school financial aid application starting April 1st to see if you have aid to pay for summer classes.
• Federal tax filing deadline is April 15th. Update your FAFSA if you used estimated tax information.

May

• Update your mailing and email addresses before going home for the summer.
• If you received an early financial aid award, visit financial aid with questions before you leave.

June

• Verification documents are due no later than June 1st to be awarded financial aid before the July payment deadline.
• Parent PLUS and Private loan applications must be approved and complete by June 1st to be processed before the July payment deadline.
• Any student with items outstanding after June 1st is not guaranteed to have their aid processed before the July payment deadline.

July

• Payment for tuition, housing, and meals are due not later than July 15th.  You will lose your housing assignment and meal plan if your balance is not paid.  

August

• Students who have not satisfied all of their financial obligations to the University will be removed from classes, housing, and meal plans.

2012 FAFSA Workshop Dates*

Financial Aid staff will be available to help students complete the FAFSA on-line. Students must have a completed FAFSA on the Web Worksheet to participate. For Worksheets, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov or the Office of Financial Aid.
