(From l-r) Sen. Thomas R. Carper, Dr. Claibourne D. Smith, DSU Board of Trustees chairman, DSU President Harry L. Williams, and Dr. John S. Wilson Jr., executive director of the White House Initiative for HBCUs, after the Blue Ribbon Commission announcement.

DSU President Names Blue Ribbon Commission

Delaware State University President Harry Lee Williams announced Feb. 1 the members of a Blue Ribbon Commission who will create a new vision statement for the 119-year-old institution.

The 14-member commission will be led by co-chairs Dr. Dyremple B. Marsh, dean of the DSU College of Agriculture and Related Sciences, and former U.S. Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD), who served in Congress 1991-2009. U.S. Senators Thomas R. Carper and Ted Kaufman and U.S. Rep. Michael N. Castle have been named honorary co-chairs.

The commission will also be responsible for recommending a set of values to accompany the new vision statement and for ways to integrate them with internal and external constituents.

Dr. John S. Wilson Jr., executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, was present at the press briefing held in the DSU Hardcastle-Selby Board of Trustees conference room.
