BofA $100K Donation to Fund Business Programs at DSU

Bank of America continued its strong support of the University recently with the donation of $100,000 that will go toward several University business-related programs. With this latest donation, Bank of America has given a total of $427,350 to the Delaware State University Foundation over the last three years in support of University programs.

The donation will go toward several Wall Street programs in the College of Business, such as camps for teachers and youths as well as Saturday academies. In addition, the money will go toward financial aid workshops for students and parents, SAT preparatory workshops and the Small Business Institute, also in the College of Business, in which student-led teams provide assistance to the operations of small businesses in the state.

DSU Acting President Honored as Black Achiever

DSU Acting President Claibourne D. Smith was among 28 Delaware African-Americans honored by the YMCA of Delaware during the 2009 Black Achievers in Business and Industry dinner and ceremony. They were recognized as role models to young people and for their enthusiasm about the positive impact they can have on the lives of youth.

NASA Scientist gets Distinguished Citizens Award

U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge of the 11th Congressional District of Ohio recently presented DSU alumnus Dr. Bilal M. Bomani with a Distinguished Citizens Award in recognition of his research as a lead scientist for NASA’s biofuels research program. Bomani is an inventor of five patented NASA technologies.
Hornet Bowling Team clinches MEAC North

Less than a week after climbing to No. 3 in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association Top 20 poll, the Delaware State bowling team has clinched its second straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division title. The Northern Division crown earns Delaware State a No. 1 seed in the 2010 MEAC Tournament in March.

DSU Appoints Alumnus as Interim Provost

Dr. Ronald H. Blackmon ’80 has been appointed interim provost and vice president of academic affairs, beginning Jan. 6. Blackmon has a BS in biology from Delaware State College and a MS in zoology and PhD in cell biology from Howard University.

Ford Test Drive Equals Donations to DSU!

From now through Jan. 4, 2010, the Ford Motor Company will donate $25 to the Tom Joyner Foundation on behalf of your favorite HBCU—including DSU!—when participants visit a Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer and test drive a vehicle.

DSU Baseball Signs Two New Players

DSU head coach J. P. Blandin announced that two high school seniors have committed to attend DSU and compete for the Hornets next year. Polytech High School (DE) honors student and pitcher Matt McClain and Maury High School (Norfolk, VA) outfielder Tyon Ore will play for the Hornets in the 2010–11 season.
