Still going strong: The MARC U*STAR Scholars continue to achieve!

MARC U*STAR Cohort (left-to-right): Jasmine Smith (Chemistry/Biology major); Iymaan Pinkman (Biology major); Brittany Williams (Biology major); Phontaye Sorrell (Psychology major); Williann Garber (Psychology major); and Charles Eke (Biology Major).
Congratulations are in order for Ms. Brittany Williams and Ms. Jasmine Smith, both graduating seniors who have spent the last two (2) years participating in the MARC U*STAR Program!
Brittany Williams, a Biological Sciences major, was one of 20 students to receive awards for oral and poster presentations in engineering, physics, and mathematics research. Delaware State University MARC U*STAR scholars were part of a delegation that represented DSU’s College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences & Technology (including the MBRS RISE, INBRE programs) at the 2011 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Biomedical Students (ABRCMS), convening Nov. 9-12, 2011 in St. Louis, Missouri. Ms. Williams was one of nearly 1,500 students competing at this national conference; she was awarded in the category of poster presentation for her poster titled, “Assay development for rapid identification of metabolites that enable killing of persisters.” Dr. Princy Quadros Mennella, assistant professor in the Biological Sciences Department, is her faculty mentor at DSU.
In other related news, Chemistry major, Jasmine Smith, a Delaware native, has been accepted into Vanderbilt University’s PhD program in Chemistry. Her faculty mentor at DSU is Dr. Cherese Winstead, assistant professor in the department of Chemistry. (Both Ms. Williams and Ms. Smith are members of a cohort of six (6) exceptional students pursuing careers in the biomedical sciences that will be graduating this May.)
Congratulations to both young ladies on their notable accomplishments and we wish for bright, promising careers in the not-too-distant future!
