Office of Sponsored Programs

Body:
Overview Sponsored programs are those projects and/or activities which are originated and conducted by members of the faculty or, in some instances, by staff members. Such programs are supported wholly or in part by external restricted funds awarded to the university. The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is a support structure and seeks to assist faculty members in a variety of ways — identifying funding sources; assisting with the development of proposals, including the development of a budget; proposal processing, which includes pre-and post-award administration of grants or contract; and review. In addition, the OSP is an advocate for a campus environment that is conducive to the research enterprise, and advises the administration on matters of regulatory compliance, internal sponsorship of scholarly activities and other related issues. The OSP is the primary mechanism for providing direct assistance to faculty and staff in identifying appropriate sources for external funds of sponsored projects and programs. Sponsored projects usually include a line item budget which states monetary needs of the project. This budget may or may not include indirect costs. Mission The mission of the Office of Sponsored Programs is to serve as an advocate for a campus environment conducive to the research enterprise and advise the administration on matters of regulatory compliance, internal sponsorship of scholarly activities and other related issues. The office also seeks to assist faculty members in identifying funding sources, assisting with development and review of proposals, and assuring compliance. Funding Opportunities Faculty Proposal Submission Response Form This form is to alert Sponsored Programs that you will be submitting a proposal for a particular grant announcement and to eliminate duplicate proposal submissions from DSU faculty. After you submit this form, you will be returned to the forms page where you should next print out and complete the Internal Processing Form.

$17 Million over 5 years: March 2009 to February 2014 NIH – National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) The Delaware Biotechnology Institute (DBI) serves as the lead organization in the State of Delaware for the development of partnerships between major institutions of higher education in the State of Delaware relative to Biomedical Research initiatives.  The DBI spearheaded the Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (BRIN) and the INBRE as a continuation of the efforts advanced through BRIN. Renewed in 2009, the Delaware INBRE renewal builds on the previous grant in furthering statewide development of biomedical research capacity in Delaware. While the BRIN was established to assist state organizations and institutions of higher education in building biomedical research infrastructure, the INBRE strengthens the capability of Delaware scientists to apply for and win RO1 grants in biomedical research by utilizing and building on the infrastructure established through the BRIN research grant.   The Partners: Delaware Biotechnology Institute , the University of Delaware , Delaware State University , Wesley College , and Delaware Technical and Community College. The Purpose: Our goal is to foster a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration across the state and to enhance the research infrastructure at each of the partner institutions of higher learning within the framework of the theme of “complex environmental systems and ecosystem health.” At DSU: CIES and The Ethics Resource Site The interdisciplinary research focus is on scientific issues of concern in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic region. The major long-term goal of this project is to establish a “Center for Integrated Ecosystem Studies.” An integral part of this EPSCoR project is an ethics and public policy component. The Ethics Resource Site has been established at DSU as a repository of expertise in both normative ethical theory and applied ethics, in areas that include (but are not limited to): bioethics, environmental ethics, and ethics in technology.
